API Connection Error 401 TiviMate Fix

You sit down to watch a major live sports broadcast, open TiviMate, and the EPG (TV Guide) loads perfectly. But the moment you click on a channel, you are hit with a black screen and a popup: "API Connection Error 401 Unauthorized".

This is one of the most frustrating errors for cord-cutters because it implies your password is wrong, even though it was working just hours ago. In this technical guide, we will break down why this happens and how a simple User-Agent change can restore your streams instantly.

What Does HTTP 401 Unauthorized Mean?

In web server terminology, a 401 Unauthorized status code means the server refuses to deliver the stream because the client (your TiviMate app) failed authentication. However, if your EPG is updating, your username and password are correct.

So why the error?

  1. User-Agent Blocking: During high-profile sports events, ISPs and anti-piracy agencies target default player signatures. They tell the server to block any traffic identifying itself as "TiviMate".
  2. Account Limits: You may have accidentally left another device running in the bedroom, exceeding your allowed concurrent connections.
  3. ISP DPI Throttling: Your Internet Service Provider is using Deep Packet Inspection to alter the authentication headers.

The Solution: Changing Your TiviMate User-Agent

By changing the "User-Agent", you disguise TiviMate's network traffic, making it look like a standard web browser or a different, non-blocked app.

  1. Open TiviMate.
  2. Navigate to Settings > General.
  3. Scroll down to User-Agent.
  4. By default, this is empty. Select it and type in one of the following stealth signatures:
    • Wink/1.31.1
    • VLC/3.0.16
    • Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36
  5. Click Next or Save.
  6. Force stop the TiviMate app and reopen it.
Note

If the Wink/1.31.1 agent doesn't work, try IPTVSmartersPro. Different providers block different signatures.

Verifying Active Connections

If changing the User-Agent doesn't fix the Error 401, you have likely hit your connection limit.

  • Disconnect from any VPNs momentarily to ensure your VPN IP hasn't been blacklisted by the provider's firewall.
  • Unplug the power from any other Firesticks or Android boxes in your house.
  • Wait exactly 10 minutes. API Connection panels take up to 600 seconds to clear a "ghost" connection from the server cache.

Still Blocked?

If you've tried the steps above and are still receiving a 401 error, your current provider's domain may have been seized or sinkholed. Contact StreamHub support via WhatsApp to request a private, non-blocked backup credential set to get you through the match.
